THE TOWN OF JACKSON

Jackson Hole is a magnificent western-style town between the true wilderness of Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. WILSON

Wilson is a charming little hamlet, a historic town where warm hospitality and numerous activities make it a must-visit destination. The town was founded in 1899 by Nick Wilson, one of Wyoming’s first Pony Express couriers. It is just seven miles from the Town Square and nine miles from Teton Village, home of JHMR and world-famous alpine skiing. There are two beautiful drives to the north and south of Wilson's: Fish Creek Road and Fall Creek Road, allowing you to see another side of the town: riparian habitat, meandering streams, ranches, and lush mountain views. In Wilson, the sleepy side of the valley also proves to be one of the most charming.

SNOW KING RESORT

Nestled at the base of Snow King Mountain and conveniently located not far from Town Square, showcasing Jackson's famous antler arches, Snow King Resort boasts a location unlike any other Jackson Hole resort. It is nine miles from Jackson Hole airport and within minutes from Grand Teton National Park. With plenty of adventures to be found, Snow King aka 'Town Hill" is also the oldest ski resort in Wyoming. This Italian trattoria focuses on handmade pasta and wood-fired cooking with expertly crafted cocktails and a value-oriented cellar of incredible Italian wines. Glorietta is a balanced mix of warm, naturally-finished materials with simple tile surrounding a sizable wood-burning grill in the middle of the restaurant, creating a tasteful but casual and pleasing space. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF WILDLIFE ART

VISIT MAMA MIMI AT R PARK

Troll like a local and visit “Mama Mimi” at Rendezvous Park. Thomas Dambo, Danish artist and recycling activist, led a team of workers to build a wonder in R Park in Jackson Hole for all the enjoy. A giant troll emerges from the banks of Rendezvous Park’s (R Park) pond to engage and delight all who visit. The troll – officially named “Mama Mimi” – was built by the artist, produced by Jackson Hole Public Art, and hosted at Jackson Hole Land Trust’s community conservation property, R Park. The “Mama Mimi” installation was created from locally sourced recycled and renewable materials. “Mama Mimi” is the 80th addition to the larger family of trolls scattered throughout the United States and the world. WILCOX GALLERY

Wilcox Gallery is not one but two fine art galleries representing 50 of the most well-known artists in western art with more than 6,000 square feet of fine art on display, established in 1969, The gallery is the home and bears the name of the renowned landscape painter, Jim Wilcox. He opened his first gallery more than half a century ago to showcase his work and that of kindred artists, those who focus on the traditional landscapes and wildlife of Wyoming and the rest of the outdoor world. Jackson Hole Public Art places temporary and permanent artworks and produces community-minded, artist-driven projects for public spaces. In 2019 the valley was named the number-one small arts community in the nation. ZINC BAR @AMAGNANI | COCKTAIL BAR

With its rugged sandstone columns, redwood paneling, and panoramic views over the snowfields, the Zinc Bar is an intimate and atmospheric aprés ski destination. THE MILLION DOLLAR COWBOY | BAR

The historic Cowboy Bar with the iconic neon cowboy on the roof is a must-stop. Wyoming's landmark watering hole, The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, is in the town square. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar is a unique Western drinking and entertainment venue established in 1937. True to its name, this bar is no ordinary one. The museum-like space is covered from floor to ceiling in genuine cowboy memorabilia, from wildlife mounts to cowboy murals, original wrangling equipment, knobbled-pine details, and genuine saddle barstools. The Rose was the first craft cocktail bar attached to a music venue in the country. SNAKE RIVER BREWERY

A VISIT TO JACKSON HOLE WINERY

Jackson Hole Winery was founded in 2009 when Anthony Schroth, a winemaker based in both California and Wyoming, came up with the maverick concept — to explore the benefits of making wine at high altitudes. Jackson Hole Winery sits at the base of the Grand Teton Range at 6,229 feet and is one of the highest-altitude wineries in North America. Today, the winery produces about 4,000 cases of wine made from premium grapes grown by the winemaker Anthony Schroth in Sonoma County, California. Upon harvest, the grapes are transported immediately to Jackson Hole, where they are crushed, fermented, pressed into the wine, and left to barrel age. The cool alpine air slows fermentation and aging, cultivating distinctive personality and potent aromatics, resulting in award-winning wines with 18% less oxygen. ELKFEST

Elkfest is a weekend of activities built around the world-famous Jackson Hole Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction. It is an exciting time for celebrating nature, outdoor skills, hunting, and ecological education and awareness. Every spring, thousands of elk wintering on the National Elk Refuge lose their antlers before they migrate to their summer range. The Boy Scouts assist the refuge with harvesting the shed antlers and auctioning them to bidders from around the world who make furniture, wall decorations, jewelry, and food products from them. This annual event, which includes the High Noon Chili Cook-Off and the Mountain Man Rendezvous kick-off, supports the National Elk Refuge, with a large portion of auction proceeds returning to habitat enhancement refuge projects.

WILD WALLS

Wild Walls is responsible for most of the colorful murals found in the downtown core. In late June, blank alley walls are transformed into an open-air gallery and its unique exhibition that runs through September. Local artists collaborate with science communities to create art that tells visual, ecological stories that become interactive using mobile devices. The murals have augmented-reality features that transform static images into live animations on current science from the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This unusual art gallery is outside a traditional venue, making Wild Walls accessible to thousands of people daily.

THE TOWN SQUARE SHOOTOUT

Enjoy one of the town's unique experiences — the nightly Town Square Shootout! This more than 65-year-old tradition – a lively reenactment of frontier justice on Town Square – happens nightly, between 6-7 p.m., except Sundays, from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Presented by The Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce and produced by The Jackson Hole Playhouse, the shootout is reportedly the longest continually running gunfight in the United States, having begun in 1957. It’s estimated that more than four million people have witnessed the shootout through the years.

Rodeo has been a part of Jackson Hole’s cowboy culture since the first settlers arrived more than 100 years ago. THE JACKSON HOLE MARATHON

The Jackson Hole Marathon races cover the best of the Jackson Hole Valley and finish at the base of the Teton Mountain Range in Teton Village. The Jackson Hole Marathon starts at the historic elk antler arches on Town Square and spends the first few miles winding past the National Elk Refuge and through neighborhoods before you are out of town and headed into the more rural areas or open spaces of Teton County. The course loops through the quaint-quirky town of Wilson, and then you’re heading north toward the Grand Teton and the Finish Line. You are in for a nice treat as you need to cross the Snake River and enjoy some of the best views of the day. If the altitude doesn’t take your breath away, the scenery certainly will!
