When you’re visiting this breathtaking part of the world in the winter, you would think there is nothing that could make the surroundings more magical, yet there is. Vallea Lumina is an enchanting, award-winning multimedia extravaganza deep in the forests. It combines the natural beauty of the coastal rainforest with stunning lights and audio creating an ethereal, interactive experience. Vallea Lumina Whistler's night time excursions follow cryptic radio transmissions and the lingering traces of two long-ago hikers, guiding you along a stunning and mystical journey just 10 minutes north of Whistler Village.
Ziptrek ziplining is open all year to combine pure adventure with education about Whistler’s centuries-old rainforest ecology. This is a must-do activity when you’re in the area. You’ll feel the endorphins ramp up as you step down the platform stairs, lifting your feet and soaring 180 feet above the ground, while reaching speeds of more than 50 m/ph while flying over the rushing white water of Fitzsimmons Creek between Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. The harness system allows you complete freedom to move, look around, and even enjoy your zipline ride hanging upside down! The Ziptrek tour area has seven suspension bridges, two rigid aerial bridges, 10 treetop viewing platforms and 10 ziplines, giving you the feeling of free flight. With comfortable harnesses and a revolutionary braking system, your flight will be smooth, safe and environmentally and socially responsible. Ziplines are gravity-fed, so you won’t have to worry about controlling your speed. Sign up inside the Carleton Lodge in Whistler Village. Once checked in, and fitted with a harness and helmet, you will be shuttled by a van from Whistler Village about 10 minutes up Blackcomb Mountain.
If you’re into extreme adventure, bungee jumping should be at the top of the list. Whistler Bungee provides an exhilarating, adrenaline filled rush like no other activity. You’ll have an unforgettable experience by jumping 160 feet over the glacial fed Cheakamus River. You will be surrounded by basalt column cliffs and old growth forest, combined with the breathtaking peak of Black Tusk in the background. You’ll learn firsthand why Whistler Bungee is regarded as one of the most scenic bungee jumping sites in the world.
Besides skiing, tubing is an exhilarating activity for all family members. Located in the Base 2 zone on Blackcomb Mountain, the bubly Coca Cola Tube Park offers great excitement for the young and the young at heart. There's no skill or equipment required – just a sense of adventure and a desire for elation. Spend a few hours with your family to have a laughter-filled, entertaining time whizzing down the hill in the fresh air!
The Whistler Bobsleigh should be at the top of the list for must-do activities in Whistler. World-renowned as “the” place to après, the Garibaldi Lift Company (GLC) lounge bar is right above the gondola building overlooking skiers as they rip down the slopes in the winter, and downhillers charging through the mountain bike park in the summer. The GLC offers the perfect view of the bike park’s infamous drops – three cliffs that plunge to a dirt landing pad. The patio is an all-season mecca for those in the know – for those who realize every day in Whistler should end with beers, tall tales and the potential for viewing riders and skiers on their final runs.
Garfinkel’s or Graf’s, as it’s locally known, has been voted Whistler’s number one nightclub many times.Home of all the biggest shows and best parties, this night spot has hosted some of the craziest, wildest parties in the town’s history. It has welcomed industry giants like Avicci, Skrillex, Armand Van Buuren, MSTRKRFT, Stanton Warriors, Ghostface Killah, RZA, GZA, Raekwon & Hilltop Hoods, just to name a few. You can expect an electric atmosphere and refreshing drinks.
There’s an old story about the town’s old watering hole. Located at the base of the Creekside Gondola, Dusty’s offers mouth watering food, arguably the world’s best Caesar, legendary après, and party rocking live shows. Dusty’s is full of legends and lore. Owners say the bar was named after Dusty, a stuffed horse that rode into town in 1979 in the back of a pick-up. He was placed in the bar, and for almost a decade, watched over the regulars as they partied the nights away. One full moon – legend has it – a female partier removed her clothes and jumped on Dusty’s back making him buck into life. It’s said he burst through the bar doors, shook the shocked, nude woman into a snowbank and galloped off into the night, never to be seen again. The moral of the story? This is a place that will put the wild back into the west.
