DINING
Let Your Belly Dance To The Rhythm Of Moroccan Cuisine
Many luxury travelers want to know something about the dining scene of a potential destination before making a final decision on a visit.
We have chosen five restaurants in Morocco to give you an idea of what’s in store for your palate!
LA GRANDE TABLE MOROCAINE
This restaurant is undoubtedly the most refined in Marrakech. The opulent La Grande Table Morocaine is tucked inside the Royal Mansour Hotel. The dining room is richly decorated, and the staff is elegantly and traditionally attired. Everything on the menu is delicate and delicious. Chef Yannick Alléno (who has three Michelin stars) has elevated La Grande Table Morocaine to one of Morocco's most well-known fine dining establishments.
Our recommendations: Try the lobster seffa medfouna (vermicelli sweetened with raisins, almonds, and cinnamon), the mullet with chermoula (garlic, cumin, and coriander marinade), or the lamb tagine with quince and orange blossom honey.
LE MAROCAIN
Here, the city’s elite sip glasses of gris (Moroccan rosé) and delight their taste buds with the traditional cuisine of Marrakech. Le Marocain is an ode to hospitality in a country where guests are welcomed as friends in a magical and warm setting. Chef Rachid Agouray magnifies the Moroccan cuisine of regional families, brilliantly capturing all the subtlety and colors of Morocco around typical and sophisticated dishes. Essential tagines and couscous are cooked with passion and encourage conviviality.
Our recommendation: chicken tagine "R'hamna" with olives and candied lemon; lamb couscous with seven vegetables; or grilled Mamounia, chicken, kofta, merguez, lamb, tomatoes, and grilled onions. For dessert, try the orange blossom, lemon, and honey pastilla.
LE TROU AU MUR
The menu at James Wix’s retro Moroccan restaurant draws straight from grandma’s cookbook. Here, you can sample traditional specialties. In contrast, the modern, oriental décor and delicious cocktails, best enjoyed on the rooftop terrace, stand out. Le Trou au Mur is a breath of fresh air in the city's fine dining scene. It exudes a relaxed and intimate atmosphere while maintaining an unwavering dedication to the authenticity of Moroccan cuisine.
We recommend: Berkoukesh (handmade pasta with a herb and tomato sauce), Trade (shredded pancakes with lentils, chicken, and saffron), or Shane (offal stuffed with spiced kofta, olives, and lemons).
In the heart of Palmeraie, you can enjoy the palatial residence Palais Ronsard, which represents the pinnacle of exoticism, elegance, and imperial grandeur. Renowned designer Gil Dez orchestrates a symphony of styles drawing inspiration from Art Deco, neo-Moorish, Baroque, and Tuscan influences. The residence can accommodate 56 guests in 28 suites and six private pavilions, each with individual heated pools, offering an eclectic luxury mosaic. Guests enjoy wellness facilities, including fitness centers, spas, saunas, and hammams. The estate surrounds a nature reserve with foliage, palm trees, roses, and ancient olive groves. The gentle sounds of fountains and waterfalls heighten the sensory experience. Palais Ronsard's lagoon-styled pools offer a disarming experience worthy of the world's most fabulous luxury vacation homes.
DAR YACOUT
This fabulous traditional restaurant is set in a gorgeously decked-out riad deep north of the medina. It was one of the first addresses in these parts to offer a multi-course gastronomic Moroccan diffa (feast) for a set price, and twenty years on, it has yet to lose its shine. You’ll relish the enchanting décor, private lounges, and breathtaking panoramic views from the terrace of the medina and the Koutoubia of Marrakech.
Take aperitifs on the terrace, then settle down for a satiating meal in one of the lavishly decorated salons.
Our recommendation: Meat tagine with seasonal vegetables, Beldi chicken with olive oil, or meat and vegetable couscous. If you have room, the honey pancakes are lovely.
TAJ MOROCCAN FOOD
For genuinely authentic Moroccan food, you must give Taj a try. The tagines are of the utmost quality, and the attentive staff treat you like family. Many people say it is the best Moroccan food they’ve ever had. Everything from appetizers to desserts brims with flavor. Taj is genuinely a five-star Marrakech eatery.
We recommend: The lamb shank in fig sauce, chicken pastilla, chicken tagine with lemons and olives, and couscous royal.
