One would be hard-pressed to find an area of Ibiza that isn’t truly glorious. Here are 12 of the most popular areas on the island:
Cala Carbo is a secluded cove that feels much like a private beach which is rustic and chic with its retro palm leaf umbrellas and sun loungers.Tourists do not overrun this beach, and so it’s a popular spot with the locals. There is an instant holiday feeling visiting Cala Carbo, complete with the smell of fresh seafood cooking at the quaint beachside restaurants.
Cala Comte is a multicultural area that offers endless appeal for all ages and whether vacationers choose to take a front-row seat at one of the great restaurants or keep their feet firmly planted in the sand, one thing is certain; this is the perfect way to end a perfect day. Since this pristine area is just 20 minutes to Ibiza Town, it’s the ideal area to stay for the duration of an Ibiza vacation.
Driving past traditional fincas and rural farmland with olive and orange groves, the pressure of everyday life seems to slip away in Es Cubells. Time seems to stand still in this lovely little village which has two fine restaurants. The beach at Es Cubells is intimate and gorgeous, complete with sunbeds and its own restaurant. Truly unrivaled views of both the hills and the sea come with Villa Zoya perched atop a hill near Es Cubells. Lounge in the outdoor pool and soak up that magnificent view. By the way, Es Cubells is one of the most highly sought-after areas for Ibiza luxury rentals.
Ibiza Town (known locally as Eivissa) is the picturesque port capital city of Ibiza. It’s known for its humming nightlife and top-notch restaurants. During the day, the shopping is a pleasant mix of high-street shops and independent boutiques. However, the true must-see is Dalt Vila, the fortified historic hillside district accessible via an old drawbridge. It’s full of narrow, cobblestone streets, hidden courtyards, museums, galleries, and a stunning cathedral. It’s a very romantic getaway at night if you want a change of pace from clubbing.
There are three areas that make up the Portinatx area: S’Arenal Gros, S’Arenal Petit and Playa Porto. With plenty of sand complemented by rocky areas and tranquil waters lapping the bay’s shores, there is something for everyone at Portinatx. The area is a great place to escape to in August when other Ibiza beaches can be noisy, busy and crowded. Mesmerizing views from the lighthouse make the area popular for long scenic walks. The many boat shacks dotting the sea’s edge make for perfect beach holiday pics!
Stunning beaches, incredible restaurants, and a slew of outings and activities make San Antonio a holiday dream. There is something for everyone when it comes to local dining. The iconic “sunset strip” deserves at least one meandering walk, stopping by the Café del Mar or Café Mambo. Children will get a kick out of the aquarium at Cap Blanc, located in a natural cave used as a lobster nursery in ancient times. There are so many beaches to choose from in the San Antonio area vacationers could pick a new one every day.
San Carlos was a famous hippie haven in the 60s and 70s. This quaint village on the north end of the island still has a definite bohemian feeling to it. The renowned Las Dallas hippie market isn’t far away with a handful of restaurants that can be found around a white-washed church and Bar Anita, which used to be the hippie hangout of the day. The bar has a nice, shady courtyard and a great selection of art on the walls which were donated over the years by local artists who didn’t have the cash to pay their bills.
Enjoy lovely views across farmland to pine-clad hillsides while taking a dip in the heated outdoor pool. San Lorenz is tranquil and serene and the perfect location for those who want to escape yet want to be close enough to the action of Ibiza Town. Even though it is more secluded, San Lorenz still has a wonderful selection of top restaurants. San Lorenz is an inland hamlet with beautiful beaches not far away. Head out of San Carlos towards the east to find the diminutive and divine Cala Mastella. For more of a social buzz, head to Cala Llenya with its soft golden sands and family-friendly atmosphere.
The traditional village of Sant Jordi is close to the Playa d’en Bossa resort and home to one of the most impressive and oldest churches in Ibiza. There are many restaurants around the square, but people gather in Sant Jordi mainly for the flea markets that take place in the Hippodrome, which used to be a horse racing enclosure.
The quiet resort town of Santa Eulalia has a tree-lined promenade along the beach and a 16th century church on a hill overlooking the town. Even though it’s the third- largest resort on the island, it still maintains a laid-back feeling. Santa Eulalia is also known for its restaurant scene, so there is no shortage of places to dine. Tapas bars are especially popular.
Santa Gertrudis can be found right in the middle of the island. It’s surrounded by fruit trees and is the perfect blend of traditional and modern. This pretty little village is where the hippies, artists, and musicians gathered in the 60s and many still live in the area showing their art in the many boutiques, galleries, and cafes. There is a wide range of places to eat, from local tapas to more contemporary and healthy choices.
Three words describe this area of Ibiza: Idyllic. Beach. Life. Talamanca’s beach is shallow, safe, calm and crystal clear. Restaurants and beach bars dot the long wooden promenade stretching the length of the golden shore. Get to the beach before lunch to catch a great spot on the sand or grab a sunbed. Those who like to run or jog with the sunrise can follow the promenade up onto the headland of Sa Punta where a run can end with a refreshing dive into the sea.
Since Ibiza is a popular destination for society’s elite, it has many wonderful fine dining establishments. Even the tiny islet of Tagomago off the east coast of mainland Ibiza has accrued a surprising culinary reputation. The following eight restaurants are the ultimate expressions of Balearic gastronomic excellence.
This charming restaurant is one of Ibiza’s best-kept secrets. Nights at Alabastro are the epitome of gastronomic sophistication. Try the gazpacho made with coconut milk topped with grilled lobster. Amante is truly a magical dining destination and romance to the nth degree. Tucked away on a secluded cove, Amante is truly spectacular during and after those glorious Ibiza sunsets. Bambuddha has trademarked its world-renowned MediterrAsian menu. There are several raw starters such as Korean tuna tartare, Iberian beef carpaccio, and yellowtail yuzu hamachi. For those who like it hot, locally-grown aubergine is caramelized with miso, a spicy beef salad is served Thai-style, and the crispy squid and prawn salad is a fusion of sweet and sour.
Can Domingo, sitting in an ancient Finca in the hills of San Jose, is a must-visit. Can Domingo showcase the finest Italian cuisine created with the very best products. Sample juicy Ibicenco and Gallego meats, including slow-cooked suckling pig or lamb with honey and lavender or fresh, light seafood, such as Mediterranean red tuna belly with Ibiza herbs.
Located in the Ibiza Gran Hotel, Cipriani is the epitome of simple luxury, relaxed sophistication, and elegance that is truly timeless. The Mediterranean-meets-fine-Italian fare includes handmade pasta, delicious risottos, a to-die-for Milanese, the finest cuts of meat grilled in an outdoor wood-fired oven, plus changing daily specials of the freshest fish. Veggies are from the well-curated onsite organic garden.
Set within the stylish grounds of boutique hotel Ca Na Xica, Salvia is a high-end Ibiza restaurant for fine dining lovers. Dishes are prepared with an international twist or influence to keep things contemporary – from classic Spanish starters to Asian influenced snacks, through amazing grilled meat and fish prepared in a Josper oven. Diners relax with an apres dinner cigar or cocktail in the alfresco lounge area.
Sublimotion is so much more than just the world’s most expensive restaurant. It’s dining at its most surreal, futuristic, and thought-provoking. During this theatrical gastronomic show, a dozen patrons feast on avant-garde cuisine in a high-tech, interactive space called a “capsule.” Architects and designers have joined with engineers, illusionists, and screenwriters to craft immersive audio/visual experiences accompanying Sublimotion’s other-worldly cuisine. The result is three hours that will take you on a journey through different times, places, and stages of emotion, from the bottom of the ocean to a sexy 20th-century cabaret to a futuristic dinner in 2050.
This museum is set over two sites, one in Dalt Vila and the other in the Phoenician necropolis of Puig des Molins. Both take you on a journey of the many communities that have lived on Ibiza during its long history with a display of artifacts found on the island from Punic and Roman times.
Located in a 17th century building in the historic quarter of Ibiza, The Contemporary Art Museum’s collections contain an outstanding representation of the artistic creativity that emerged on the island in the 1960s. Works by artists such as Tàpies and Miralles, and lesser-known artists, natives or residents of the Balearic Islands, can be seen here. The museum also has a beautiful garden and organizes many temporary exhibitions.
Museo Puget, located in Ibiza town, shows the works of two famous artist sons of Ibiza, Puget Viñas and Puget Riquer. Set in a beautiful old palace, the museum divides up the works of the painters in two different galleries. It regularly has other exhibitions, such as photos of Ibiza in the past.
Arguably, there is no better place in the world to party than in Ibiza. These six venues make for some sizzling, exciting evenings:
This hotspot is ironically named Amnesia since a night here is one partiers won’t easily forget. Amnesia has picked up the Best Global Club award three times. Be prepared for a late-night since the party doesn’t really get going until around midnight with the festivities going on until sunrise. Make sure to stay for the infamous Cream parties. If you are tempted by nights at Amnesia, you should book one of LVH’s Ibiza luxury property rentals to spend days by the beach and nights out on the town.
Those looking for unique décor and a venue that emits its own energy (it’s in the shape of a pyramid) Es Paradis Terrenal is where it’s at. The atmosphere here is crazy and festive. Although Es Paradis is one of Ibiza’s oldest clubs, it’s a rite of passage for those new to Ibiza since newcomers must experience the bar’s famous water party or Fiesta Del Agua. Make sure to bring waterproof attire to join in the fun.
Pacha is known as an institution in Ibiza and was opened in 1972. It became so popular it was actually franchised with clubs popping up all over the world. This is a popular spot for those who want to see and to be seen. For a legendary night out, Pacha is the place.
Privilege is the spot for anyone wanting to experience what Ibiza’s nightlife is all about. Famous hosts have included P. Diddy and Madonna. The club has the capacity to hold 8,000 partiers, but with its 82-foot high ceiling and massive windows partiers can still get a terrific view of surrounding Ibiza. To really put things over the top, the club comes complete with a swimming pool!
Aptly named, Space is out there providing a whole other level of a clubbing experience. Located close to the airport, Space has its own unique open terrace. When Space opens its doors, everyone knows the clubbing season has started. It’s a huge draw for big-name entertainers like The Chemical Brothers and Simian Mobile Disco. More than 20,000 clubbers pass through the Space doors during a season.
To experience the #1 outdoor VIP club in Ibiza with the most famous stage on the island, one has to head to Ushuaia. Dance, be amazed by the spectacle, feel the energy and enjoy performances of the world’s best DJs. Get into the groove of those who break the rules. Better still, book one of the most coveted VIP tables with the best service, surrounded by beautiful people and stellar views of the stage.
Ibiza is all about the parties, but it’s also about soaking up the culture. Have a look at these four events. One or more is likely to be appealing:
Art meets culture in the annual Bloop festival, which provides comment on global issues through art with a major project to turn Ibiza into an open air gallery, as expressed through gigantic murals, like the ones in San Antonio and Ibiza Town. At this festival, expect live installations, interactive workshops and of course music.
This festival has been hailed as one of the most important musical events in Ibiza. Since the late 80s, jazz fans have been relishing three nights of great jazz music at the Eivissa Jazz Festival. Over the years, the festival has grown to performances of some jazz greats and promising young talent. The festival also doubles as an art show related to the musical genre.
If you love electronic music, you must make time to attend the International Music Summit (IMS) Ibiza. Thousands of electronic music professionals from around the world gather for this three-day electronic dance music conference to discuss the future of this genre. IMS has gained a reputation over the past decade as one of the most important conferences in the world. And of course, IMS is not IMS without the end of the week celebratory bash.
The party season really gets underway with club opening parties in May and the season starts to wind down the first week of October with closing parties. As May nears its end, most of the super clubs are open and in full swing. The last week of May is when most venues host their famous opening parties. Closing parties begin at the end of September.
Ibiza offers a wide roster of exhilarating and photogenic activities sure to provide vacationers with unforgettable experiences.
Sail a private and luxurious catamaran along the best beaches in Ibiza. You will be taken to Cala Bassa and Cala Conta, considered the best beaches in Ibiza. Anchor for swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, and jumping off the boat into the crystal clear turquoise waters of Ibiza. Once the sun sets over the azure blue water the catamaran sails back to the San Antonio yacht club, where you can freshen up and get ready for another lovely evening in Spain’s party mecca.
The eFoil is a mix of all the sports enthusiasts who love; surfing, kite foiling, flying, and deep powder snowboarding. A powerful electric motor is mounted on a wing with a propeller beneath a high-performance surfboard. The foil and wings combine to allow riders of all abilities to fly above the water. With private lessons, you will soon be enjoying a new perspective of the beauty around you in no time.
You can’t leave Ibiza without doing something unique and memorable, and a private flyboarding lesson just may fit that bill. A flyboard is connected to a jet boat by a hose, and as the hose fills with water, the water surges to create powerful high-pressure jets that will send you soaring into the air. Imagine the rush of being able to burst out of the clear waters and fly up to 10 meters high! It’s relatively easy to master the basics, and 95% of those who try for the first time begin to fly in just a few minutes.
